POEM
Sometimes we have to Push past our heartache And do the Lord’s work. I have learned such things.
Sometimes we have to
Lay aside our heartbreak
And do heavenly works.
I have learned these things.
Not for salvation or fame Do we do these things, But to please the Father, To glorify his name.
Sometimes we have to Set aside heart-rending memories And serve the Lord Christ. I have learned these things.
Sometimes we must Cast down quixotic imaginations And do the Holy Ghost’s work. I have been taught such things.
Sometimes we must Bring into captivity painful thoughts And serve the living and true God. I have been taught these things.
O! I wish that I could throw away Things that lead my mind astray, And to never again see (well, I will not say,) That which causes, O, I will not say!
Sometimes we have to
Weep from within, not outwardly;
Hide our pain, set it aside for a time,
Cast our cares upon the most High,
And do something for God.
I have learned such things.
Sometimes it is needful to Push past, give to God, cast down, Bring into captivity, or lay aside Our personal heartache, heartbreak, Fanciful imaginations, sad thoughts, Heart-rending memories, and tears, And go out and do the work of the Lord. I have learned to do these things, I say.
